Pelham Bay Park — at 2,772 acres, the largest park in New York City, nearly three times the size of Central Park — was acquired by the city in 1888, and its Orchard Beach became known as the Riviera of the Bronx when Robert Moses redesigned it in the 1930s. The residential community adjacent to the park has a character shaped by that history: quieter, more residential, and home to generations of families who built their lives here and intend to stay. Community District 10, which includes Pelham Bay, has a life expectancy of 81.1 years and a median household income of $59,522 — significantly better than the South Bronx, but still a community with thousands of elderly residents whose health needs grow as they age. When a Pelham Bay senior has a stroke, needs rehabilitation after knee replacement, or is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Good Care Agency provides the in-home nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and aide support that makes remaining in the neighborhood possible. The James J. Peters VA Medical Center serves veteran residents in our service area, and we coordinate with VA discharge teams for veteran clients.
